 Winter Wildfowl

One of the great sights and sounds of a British winter is the early morning and evening take-off of the large skeins of geese that visit our shores during this time of year, and for this short break we will be basing ourselves at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust's Caerlaverock reserve, winter home of large numbers of Barnacle Geese.  We'll have the chance to be in position for their early morning and late afternoon flights to and from the Solway estuary to the feeding grounds around the reserve and adjacent farmland, with hides well placed to allow for good photographic opportunities.  Healthy numbers of Whooper swan, Pochard and other wintering duck will make for a good variety of subjects, along with a trip to an excellent site for Goosander diving in a fast moving weir and hopefully a decent Starling roost to visit as well.  Days are relatively short at this time of the year here so evenings will be spent reviewing slideshows and critiquing any images you'd like to bring along and share.
