Natures Images

Magyar Autumn Magic 2010

There’s always the odd trip where weather conditions make things just that bit harder – it is nature we’re after images of after all – and double the annual rainfall (much of it in the week we were there it seemed) and a really mild Scandinavian autumn keeping the Cranes from starting their migration this year meaning only 10% of the average for the week actually being in the area, certainly didn’t help.  It didn’t stop us getting some good picture opportunities though, the woodland drinking pool offering up about 15 different species including Middle Spotted Woodpecker, Hawfinch and a stunning Wren, and the 2 reed bed hides rewarding the patient with a cracking Water Rail and plenty of other water bird opportunities including an elegant Great White Egret, playful Pygmy Cormorants and a stunning Grey Heron amongst the highlights. The Cranes will be back next year and so will we!
